this is a commission for a virginia tech alum who saw my feature on slashfilm and wanted me to re-interpret his school's mascot, the hokiebird...he also wanted the university administration building prominently featured and some kind of subltle tribute to the 32 people that died in the campus shootings last year (count the stars)...anyway, he seemed pretty happy with the end result.

This is really cool. Using the stars as tribute is perfect.

Nice! Great composition and colors... I love the neutral gray used in conjunction with the very bold oranges and reds. Great depth with limited color palette...

Very cool sir - Nicely done with the stars as well - was that your idea or did he just want '32' in there somehow?

thanks. yep, i created 'em in illustrator. i made a stepped blend between 2 parallel lines and then masked it into the shape of the trees.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but it sounds cool and easy.

One of these days, I'm gonna have to get serious about learning how to use Illustrator. I don't even really understand the function of masks! Why not just create and fill a shape?! What's the benefit of a masK!?? I'm LOSING MY MIND!
